Best Foot Forward: Diabetic Foot Care

This course provides the knowledge and skills to recognize signs of diabetic foot issues and help prevent complications through early detection, effective communication, and client education. It covers the purpose and use of Inlow’s Foot Screening Tool and how to identify abnormalities in skin, nails, blood flow, sensation, and foot structure. The course also addresses assessing footwear fit, identifying risk factors for ulceration and amputation, and using effective communication strategies. Learners will know when and how to escalate concerns to the healthcare team and how to support individuals in regular foot care and self-monitoring.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

• Screen for and recognize ulcers and other foot concerns.
• Communicate your observations from the foot screening to the PLWD and/or a family caregiver.
• Connect community members to a health professional who can address these concerns.
